Kind gifts for the darkest days!

This Advent Calendar contains 24 short ideas for gifts, boons, and advantages for hunters in Monster of the Week games. Each entry presents someone or some-thing helpful in hunting monsters or investigating strange phenomena.

Most of these entries are cozy and heartwarming, but some have a bit of a rebellious streak, and most focus on sympathy for outsiders and outcasts. In other words, some are like Christmas sweaters, and others like ripped punk sweaters.

Here's the entry for December 1, a sample of how it works:

1: Monstersouls Organized Play Bystanders: innocents (motivation: to do the right thing) or Allies: friends (motivation: to provide emotional support)

Monstersouls is a tabletop roleplaying game about the messy lives of monsters hiding among people. It has a great community organizing regular games at conventions and elsewhere. Most players do not know that monsters and magic exist but love stories of not fitting in, being shunned despite good intentions, and struggling with secrets. It means that a surprising number of monster hunters participate in this Organized Play program, getting a feeling of connection and understanding without revealing their mission.

Custom move: I know the feeling When you play or run a game of Monstersouls, and pour your real experiences and feelings into it, state what those are and roll +Cool. On 10+, you get +1 ongoing to dealing with situations that cause similar feelings till the end of the mystery. On 7-9, you get +1 forward. On a miss, your co-players start suspecting that you’re experiencing something similar in real life (and you might start considering sharing the truth with them).
